Waterworks Consulting Ltd is open for co-operation with all foreign educational
organizations and institutions. We invite activity-based maritime programmes,
particularly from Russia and other countries from the former USSR. The company
hosts reciprocal sailing (or other outdoor activities) aboard a SHE31, which was
designed by Sparkman and Stephens and built in 1969 (top left). The boat has
traditional hank-on sails and navigation is by chart using hand-held GPS for position
fixing. The tender is shown top right. Just kidding.
Sailing west through Sussex, Devon, Cornwall and the Scilly Islands, there is some of
the loveliest coastal scenery in the country. We have 1-5m tidal ranges, so there are
plenty of interesting tidal gates and anchoring sites. There are increasing numbers of
sea birds, dolphins, seals as we get further west. The water is cold but nice to swim in
and there are footpaths everywhere. Culturally, Portsmouth is the home of the navy
and there are various military installations going back to 1500 all along the coast,
dotted among fishing villages and Victorian spa resorts. The place is full of pubs.
Do you, and maybe one other sailor, like the sound of this sort of sailing? Would you
like to host an English sailor - or two - on your boat in return? Alternatively, you may
prefer to offer alternative outdoor exploration, such as kayaking or hiking?
